The Concept

ZAVADSKI, in collaboration with designers Lena Beigel and Georg Sampl, presents KOLO, a modular pendant light developed in Vienna. The design draws on the generous proportions and spatial character of the city's historic Altbau interiors, as well as on the familiar glass spheres found in entrances, cafés and street lighting. Details which usually stay hidden become visible and central elements for the design of KOLO.

KOLO is made with mouth-blown glass, a technique that leaves the surface uneven, bubbled, and never quite the same twice. The pendant light is presented for the first time at the ZAVADSKI showroom on Burggasse, 1070 Vienna, an active workshop and retail space opened in 2025.

Oleh Zavadsky, CEO since the early 2000s, leads the company's showroom on Burggasse in Vienna's 7th district, opened in 2025. KOLO is the company's first pendant light developed in Vienna, initiated and led by ZAVADSKI in close collaboration with Beigel and Sampl.

The name

An email, sent by Oleh Zavadsky to Lena Beigel and Georg Sampl during KOLO's early development:

"So far the most elaborated name circulating in my mind is KOLO. After Koloman Moser, one of the founders of Secession (BTW: look at the ceiling cup of his pendant...) His short name, at least the way his friends called him, was Kolo. Besides, Kolo in Ukrainian means Circle (both in geometrical and cosmological meanings). This word also rolls, goes forward, like Volvo (in Latin means something like I go or I roll)."

He also called it "kind of too simple," and left it open for Lena and Georg to challenge.

They didn't. The name stayed.
